What Is a Food Allergy and Sensitivity Lab Test

Proteins in the food you eat can trigger an autoimmune response in your body, resulting in an intolerance (uncomfortable) or allergy (potentially serious reaction). An autoimmune response means that your body “attacks” the protein with immunoglobulins (IgG) antibodies – Food Allergy and Sensitivity Lab Tests are designed to identify these IgG antibodies for varioius foods.

What an autoimmune response to food looks like is elevated inflammation in the part(s) of the body that is affected. Some common symptoms of immune responses to food are:

  • Fatigue/lethargy
  • Elevated blood sugar
  • Joint pain
  • Headaches
  • Gut problems
  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • Hives and other skin problems
  • Swelling

Purpose of Food Allergy and Sensitivity Lab Test

While most a single instance of an autoimmune response to food is generally simply uncomfortable, over time chronic inflammation and elevation blood sugar can pose a considerable threat to brain health. For example, recent research is beginning to uncover a whole range of possible side effects of chronic inflammation, such as a potential link with Alzheimer’s disease and other brain illnesses.

A Food Allergy and Sensitivity Lab Test is designed to detect allergen specific IgG antibodies known to instigate a response to common foods, such as wheat, dairy, nuts, etc.
