Thyroglobulin, Quantitative

This blood test is used to measure thyroglobulin levels. Thyroglobulin is a protein that helps synthesize the production of thyroid hormones. Thyroglobulin may be used to help establish the cause of hyperthyroidism or to monitor the effectiveness of treatment for certain thyroid disorders. This test is primarily used as a tumor marker to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment for thyroid cancer and to monitor for recurrence.

Test Preparation For Optimal Results:
If possible, have the lab collected early in the morning or shortly after waking. For comparison purposes, have subsequent labs collected close to the same time.
