Methylmalonic acid is an important component to evaluate when diagnosing vitamin B12 deficiency anemia. This test is frequently used in conjunction with a B 12 level and a homocysteine in order to have a more in depth look when assessing B12 and homocysteine levels. Methylmalonic acid levels may be elevated in those who suffer from kidney disease.
Test Preparation For Optimal Results:
If possible, have the lab collected early in the morning or shortly after waking. For comparison purposes, have subsequent labs collected close to the same time.
